Break Throughs!

At least one of Caro's teeth has broken through. She won't let me look. She bit me and I felt the front tooth - ouch! She was mad that Xavi was trying to sit on my lap and bit me because I was closer. Did I mention that my daughter has a lot of attitude? Is a diva? And a drama-queen?

Xavi has finally decided to do all his business in the potty! We had a few good days last week and into the weekend but he still wouldn't poop in the toilet at school. On Monday he finally went and has been ever since. He'll go in any bathroom! AND by himself! We still have to remind him to go the majority of the time (to avoid accidents) but he'll go if he suddenly gets the urge. We are beside ourselves with joy! Seriously.

Here are some pictures of Xavi being funny. I had no idea he was making faces in these until way later, he thought he was so funny.

teeth

Looks like we may have been right about the mouth full of teeth. I kept expecting the bottom teeth to come out first but today when she threw herself back to hang upside down, I noticed that two top teeth were so close to coming out they actually looked like they had broken through. Not yet but very close...and the other top two are not far behind - good thing because the two that are about to come through are not right next to each other! Upon closer examination, I realized the bottom teeth have a bit more to go but are pretty close also. Oh my!

There may also be a hair cut in her future! Very exciting!

turning one and turning a corner?

We began the celebration over the weekend with dinner out with both the Anello and Lopez clan. It was festive and there was lots of food. Plus Caro got to wear a cute dress for the occasion.
On Wednesday night we had a quiet dinner, except for her screaming when she didn't get enough food or water, and cupcakes followed. She smashed one into her mouth and decided she wasn't interested. She had the same cupcakes at daycare to celebrate so maybe she was just over them. She's been a little sick and up a lot at night. Her father thinks she may finally be getting some teeth. At the rate she's up, she better get a mouth full of them soon!

Xavi is back to wearing underwear at school and at home, pull ups at night and nap time only. He is less likely to have accidents then though. He is still having accidents, when he is too busy playing to pull himself away usually, but might have actually turned a corner. He is more willing to go on his own (when we tell him to) and to poop in the potty! He has been very receptive at home, but his teachers are still not seeing the same kinds of results...Bless their hearts, they are sooo willing to work with us on this. I'm sure things can only get better from here. I'm also more convinced that he was reacting to getting a little sister, because he has decided that the best part of using the potty is that his sister is too little to do it and she doesn't know how!

almost 1 year...

Just posting some new pics of the kids. Caro is looking a lot older all of a sudden...I can't figure out what to do with her hair but her daycare provider is a genius and did this today!

Daniel is out for a couple of days so I'm nervous about doing it all on my own.
Xavi has oma and gramps on the brain, since we're waiting for their arrival this week. When I was washing my hair the other day (and it was covered in suds) he looked at me and said you look like grandpa. We ran into an older man with white hair and Xavi smiled at him and then stared and said that's not my grandpa. When I told him his grandparents were coming to visit, he said oma was bringing him chocolate/lollipops!

practice makes perfect

It's official -Caro is walking! She started to let go and take "long" walks between furniture or anything she can hold on to. I get weekly emails about that tell me about "my baby this week" and when I looked a head I realized that after Feb 18 they start to say "you toddler this week"! I'm not ready to have two toddlers. I still think of her as my baby...but she will be the right age and will be doing more and more of that frankenstein, hands in the air, walk - too cute! I have pictures and a video I will post later tonight.

The hair is a mess these days. I'm at a loss for what to do with it.

last picture is an attempt to do her hair...
Conversations with Xavi are great and better every day. Yesterday while walking home after school he says to me (out of the blue)
"Mami...I saw Barack Obama at my school" (WHAT?!)
I said, "where did you see him?"
"At my school. Everyone was happy!" (He names all the people that were happy - his teachers and all his friends.
I asked him if he said hello (a new topic of discussion - that he doesn't say hello when someone says hello to him).
He said "No! He was on tv, mami"
OH
