Wish I'd Known Then...

...what I know now. Life with an infant is treating us well so far, thanks to that first experience (and a good baby). Don't want to go into details for fear of jinxing our luck. Life with a sometimes jealous toddler is a little trickier. Obviously it's the unknown that stumps us. At both stages there are some really tough things you just have to get through and nothing but time really helps. The question is what are those times in the life of a toddler....? The really hard part is balancing time with two kids that have totally different needs. And keeping all the guilt about time spent away from my first born at bay. Gotta find more time for mami and Xavi time.

Is it halloween? Nope, it's my hero, super pumpkin head. He gets very serious when playing super hero - the cape has to be just right or he can't fly. Caro is 5 weeks today - this picture was taken over the weekend.

Not sure what song this is, but it's a recent favorite. Anyone recognize it? Obviously I'm not referring to twinkle twinkle little star.

PS Yes, he likes to give the cats (and us!) timeouts!

Oma visits

and the weather improves. It was nice enough to go for a walk and for the first trip to the playground. Oma watched the baby while xavi and I ran around. He decided it was warm enough to take of his coat...maybe he wanted to show off his new shirt.

We're approaching 5 weeks and Carolina is growing fast. She still likes to sleep...as you can tell.

Another Addition

Today we welcomed Sofia Irma to our family. My sister gave birth to Xavi and Caro's first cousin at 11:33am today. She weighs 6lbs 6oz and measures 19 inches. We are so excited and look forward to many playdates for the girls...and pictures!

one handed

not much opportunity for pictures. when caro is awake, which is a lot more often, she wants to eat. and when xavi is around he either wants the other parent's undivided attention or he wants to hug his baby(this requires a lot of supervision!). this means we're both usually trying to do things with our one free hand - at least we have that. that's how i'm able to post now. i just found the perfect picture on the camera, must have taken it last week? so I decided to put her down long enough to snap another picture...she woke up 2 seconds later. yes, she has a bit of baby acne. poor thing. this is xavi trying to hug and kiss his sister and caro at three weeks.

so it turns out that part of the difficulty with xavi can probably be attributed to his two year molars coming in. he's been very cranky recently and was waking up at night crying. last night while getting him ready for bed he tells me his mouth and teeth hurt. I check his molars and sure enough one is in and another has just broken through the skin. two upper molars will be last to come in. this doesn't make it a whole lot easier - he's still two with a new sister...

oma is coming to visit tomorrow so maybe, with another pair of hands, we'll get more pctures.

Two week follow up

Caro had her two week appt yesterday and is doing well. Shots haven't started yet, thankfully. She now weighs 8lbs 10.5oz and measures 21.5 inches. I have a small concern about her developing the same formula intolerance that xavi had as an infant. She gets a little bit of formula each day so I can have some quality time with xavi - usually at dinner or bed time. It's been a life saver and I hope we don't have to give that up. She tries to move a lot already...she rocks herself until she lays on her side, for example. I think xavi also liked to sleep on his side...?
Xavi has been tough these days...should we blame it on his age or the arrival of his sister? Who knows...he loves her very much but is having a tough time adjusting to sharing his parents with her. So we've decided to drop the potty training issue for a while. We'll resume in the summer?

two weeks old

This picture is for the oma...the booties fit! Who knows for how long, but when she outgrows them it won't be in the wide direction! So caro will be two weeks old tomorrow. Her umbilical cord fell off earlier this week, her nb clothes don't really fit anymore and we're almost out of her nb diapers which is good b/c they're starting to get snug. These aren't huge milestones...we knew it would happen and would happen soon, but in remembering xavi go through this and seeing him now it reminds me how quickly the time will go by. It's so much easier to appreciate this time with the second one. No matter how often people told me this with xavi, it was so overwhelming that it was difficult to really keep this in mind. She still sleeps a lot, but we know that will change. She's starting to have more wakeful moments during the day but not enough to get a good picture.

So here's my belated v-day present for my boys. I can't tell who's happier with this present. Xavi or his father? And I would bet the father's happiness wouldn't be over his own shirt, but instead the shirt that his son wants to wear everyday and at bedtime. All of a sudden it's ok to wear the same clothes everyday!
